Choosing what to have engraved on a ring is often more difficult than choosing the ring itself. The message is permanent; it must have meaning today and ten years from now. Here are 30 concrete ideas, categorized by relationship and occasion, to help you find the right words. For a couple: engrave what truly belongs to you Engraving a couple's ring should anchor something real into the jewelry. Not a phrase heard everywhere, but something that comes from your own unique story. The ideas that work best: the date of your first meeting in DD.MM.YY format, the GPS coordinates of the place where you met, your two initials joined by a symbol (A&M, L+T), a short sentence from a private conversation that only you understand, or simply "Forever" in the language that touches you most. Latin works well for rings: "In aeternum" (for eternity), "Semper" (always), "Amor vincit omnia" (love conquers all). What to avoid: famous quotes found everywhere. An engraving should say something that others wouldn't be able to engrave on their rings. For a mom or grandmother: names above all For a mother, the most powerful engraving is often the simplest: her children's names. On a wide band ring, you can engrave two, three, or even four names in a row. On a thinner model, initials are sufficient and create a more discreet effect, yet they are just as meaningful. Other ideas for a mom: her birth date followed by her children's, "Loving Mom" engraved inside the band, names with their corresponding birthstones for rings with stones, or a phrase like "My greatest adventure" which speaks of motherhood without being too explicit. For a grandmother, "Dearest Grandma" remains timeless. You can also engrave the names of all her grandchildren if the ring model permits. For a friend: humor and complicity A ring given to a best friend can afford something lighter. An inside joke, a nickname, or an expression you use between yourselves. This type of personal engraving creates a unique object that only makes sense to her. If you prefer to stay in the sentimental register: "For life," "My better half," or simply her name engraved in your favorite font. For a long-term friendship, the date you met also works very well. To mark a specific occasion Certain occasions call for an engraving that marks the event rather than the relationship. For a wedding anniversary, the wedding date engraved inside the band is a classic that doesn't age. For 10, 20, or 30 years, you can add the number of years: "10 years, always you." For graduation, the date of completion and the initials of the degree. For a baptism or birth, the child's name and birth date on a ring given to the mother.
