The question always comes up before buying: how long does an eternal rose really last? The answer depends on the type of rose, how it is kept, and what is meant by "eternal." Here is what you need to know to choose and give one without any unpleasant surprises. What exactly is an eternal rose? The term "eternal rose" actually covers two very different types of roses, often confused in commercial descriptions. The first category is the preserved rose. It is a real rose picked at its peak, whose sap is replaced by a mixture of glycerin and natural dyes. This process stops the aging process while maintaining the appearance, texture, and feel of a fresh rose. It does not dry out, does not lose its petals under normal conditions, and can last for several years. The second category is the dried rose or soap rose. More accessible, it does not have the same longevity or the same look. It can become brittle over time, losing its color and petals due to humidity or impact. The eternal roses we offer in our gift boxes are preserved roses: real roses, treated to last without water or maintenance. How long does a preserved rose last? Under ideal conditions, a high-quality preserved rose lasts between 3 and 5 years, sometimes longer. This figure varies depending on several factors: the quality of the preservation, exposure to direct sunlight, ambient humidity, and how it is handled. Things that accelerate the aging of an eternal rose: direct sunlight, which fades the petals; high humidity, such as in a bathroom; frequent handling, which weakens the petals; and dust that accumulates if it is not under a glass dome. Things that extend its lifespan: keeping it under glass or in its original case, placing it in a spot with indirect light, avoiding very humid rooms, and not touching it regularly. Should it be watered or maintained? No. This is one of the great advantages of the preserved rose: it requires no maintenance. No water, no fertilizer, no misting. The glycerin that replaces the sap keeps the rose's cells hydrated permanently, without any external input. If dust accumulates over time, a gentle puff of air or a very delicate brush is enough. Never use water or a damp cloth on a preserved rose: moisture can reactivate the aging process and damage the petals. Eternal rose alone or in a gift box with jewelry: what is the difference? An eternal rose alone is a visual and symbolic gift. Paired with personalized jewelry in a gift box, it becomes a complete experience: the decorative object that marks the moment, and the jewelry that stays with the person long after. This is the philosophy of our gift boxes at Mon Cadeau Unique: the rose is the first gesture, the one that creates the emotion upon opening. The personalized jewelry is what the person wears every day, reminding them of that moment. The two complement each other without replacing one another. Eternal Rose Gift Box with Personalized Letter Necklace — €49.90 How to choose the color of the eternal rose? The color of a rose carries symbolism that many are unaware of when choosing. Red is for love and passion, the most common gift for a couple. Powder pink evokes softness, tenderness, and affection, ideal for a mother or a close friend. White symbolizes purity and elegance, often chosen for weddings or christenings. Burgundy and purple are rarer choices, often perceived as more sophisticated. If you are hesitating, red remains the most universal for a romantic gift. Pink is the most versatile choice for all others. For what occasions should you give an eternal rose? The eternal rose works for any occasion where you want to highlight a lasting feeling. For Valentine's Day, it says "my love does not fade." For Mother's Day, it creates a memory that remains visible in the home long after the day. For a birthday, it marks the moment in a way fresh flowers cannot: it lasts as long as the memory itself. Paired with a personalized necklace or bracelet, it forms a complete gift that meets both the need for the immediate moment and the long-term sentimental value. Frequently asked questions about the eternal rose How long does a preserved eternal rose last? A high-quality preserved eternal rose lasts between 3 and 5 years under normal conditions, sometimes longer. Its longevity depends on light exposure, humidity levels, and how often it is handled. Kept away from direct light and humidity, it can remain in excellent condition for several years without any maintenance. Should you put water on an eternal rose? No, never. A preserved eternal rose requires no water or maintenance. The glycerin that replaces the sap keeps the cells hydrated permanently. Adding water or dampening the rose can instead accelerate its aging and damage the petals. What is the difference between an eternal rose and a dried rose? The preserved eternal rose is a real rose treated with glycerin to retain its fresh appearance and suppleness for years. A dried rose is simply dehydrated: it hardens, becomes brittle, and loses its color more quickly. The visual result is very different: the preserved rose looks like a fresh rose, while the dried rose has a rougher, more aged appearance. How do you care for an eternal rose so it lasts a long time? To extend the life of an eternal rose: avoid direct sunlight, which fades the petals; do not place it in a very humid room like a bathroom; limit handling; and if possible, keep it under glass or in its case. If dust accumulates, a light puff of air or a soft brush is enough—never use water or products. Is the eternal rose in the Mon Cadeau Unique gift boxes a real rose? Yes, the roses in our gift boxes are real preserved roses, not soap or fabric roses. They are picked at their peak and then treated to maintain their natural appearance, texture, and colors for several years without maintenance.
